Empowering Kilifi Together: Nurturing Growth, Building Sustainable Futures

The Public Works Division

Welcome to the Public Works Division of the Kilifi County Department of Roads. Our division plays a crucial role in the planning, development, and management of public infrastructure within Kilifi County. Under the guidance of H.E. Governor Gideon Maitha Mung’aro, our mission is to ensure that public works projects are executed with the highest standards of quality, efficiency, and sustainability.

Our Responsibilities
Infrastructure Development:

We oversee the construction and upgrading of public infrastructure, including roads, bridges, public buildings, and other essential facilities that contribute to the county’s growth and development.
Maintenance and Repairs: Our team is responsible for the regular maintenance and repair of public infrastructure to ensure its longevity and functionality.
Project Management:

We manage all stages of public works projects, from planning and design to implementation and completion, ensuring they meet regulatory standards and community needs.
Quality Assurance: We uphold rigorous quality control measures to ensure that all public works projects are completed to the highest standards of safety and durability.

Key Projects
Masheta Bridge Reconstruction
The Masheta Bridge in Chasimba Ward, Kilifi South, had collapsed, disrupting connectivity and posing safety risks. The Public Works Division, led by Chief Officer Philip Charo, is overseeing the reconstruction of this vital bridge. Recent inspections confirmed that the project is progressing well, and we are committed to completing it on schedule to restore safe passage for residents.

Ngomeni Seawall Construction
In collaboration with the Agriculture CECM Dr. Patterson Chula and Chief Officer for Blue Economy, Herbert Tawa Mwachiro, we are working on the Ngomeni Seawall project. This project, currently 50% complete, is critical for protecting coastal areas from erosion and enhancing the resilience of our shoreline.

Habura Primary School Facilities
As part of our commitment to improving educational infrastructure, the Public Works Division is supervising the construction of three new classrooms and a four-door pit latrine at Habura Primary School in Kisiki sub-location, Adu Ward. This initiative, part of the KEMFSED Phase 1 community sub-projects, aims to provide a better learning environment for students in the Waata, Giriama, and Orma communities.

Magarini-Madzayani Road Improvement
The Magarini-Madzayani road project, covering approximately 11km, includes opening, grading, and spot murraming. Launched by CECM Catherine Kenga and her team, this project will significantly enhance road accessibility in Magarini Sub-County. We are dedicated to delivering a high-quality road that meets the expectations of the local community.

Community Engagement
We believe in the importance of engaging with the community throughout the lifecycle of our projects. Regular consultations and feedback sessions allow us to address local needs and ensure that public works projects align with community expectations. Our goal is to create infrastructure that supports and enhances the quality of life for all Kilifi residents.

Future Plans
The Public Works Division is focused on expanding and improving public infrastructure throughout Kilifi County. Future plans include the construction of additional public facilities, the upgrading of existing infrastructure, and the introduction of innovative construction techniques. Our aim is to continue providing high-quality public works that support the county’s development goals.
