Empowering Kilifi Together: Nurturing Growth, Building Sustainable Futures

The Roads Division

Welcome to the Roads Division of the Kilifi County Department of Roads. Our mission is to develop, maintain, and manage Kilifi County’s road infrastructure to support the county’s growth and enhance the quality of life for its residents. Under the leadership of H.E. Governor Gideon Maitha Mung’aro, we are committed to delivering efficient, reliable, and sustainable road solutions across the county.

Our Objectives
Infrastructure Development:

To plan, construct, and upgrade roads that facilitate efficient transportation and connectivity within Kilifi County.
Maintenance and Rehabilitation: To ensure the upkeep of existing roads through regular maintenance and timely rehabilitation to extend their lifespan and safety.
Community Engagement:

To involve communities in road projects to address local needs and concerns, ensuring that our infrastructure meets the expectations of the residents.
Innovation and Sustainability:

To implement modern road construction techniques and sustainable practices that minimize environmental impact and maximize durability.
Key Projects
Masheta Bridge Reconstruction
The Masheta Bridge in Chasimba Ward, Kilifi South, suffered significant damage leading to tragic incidents. In response to community concerns, we initiated a comprehensive reconstruction project. A recent inspection by Chief Officer Philip Charo and our engineering team confirmed substantial progress, with the project on track for timely completion. This bridge is a critical link for Chasimba residents, and its restoration will greatly enhance safety and connectivity.

Kibao cha Goshi to Madunguni and Kijiwetanga to Jacaranda Roads
We are pleased to announce the completion and official handover of phase 2 of the Kibao cha Goshi to Madunguni Road and phase 1 of the Kijiwetanga to Jacaranda Road. These roads are integral parts of our ongoing efforts to improve Kilifi’s road network. Phases 3 and 4 of these roads are planned for the 2024-2025 budget, with construction set to begin soon.

County Mashinani Initiatives
As part of the County Mashinani initiative, we have actively engaged with communities across Kilifi. Recent activities included the inspection of ongoing road projects in Malindi, Mtepeni, Junju, and Shimo La Tewa Wards. These inspections are vital for ensuring accountability and gathering public feedback on our roadworks.

Magarini-Madzayani Road
The Magarini-Madzayani road, spanning approximately 11km, is undergoing opening, grading, and spot murraming. This project, recently launched by CECM Catherine Kenga and her team, aims to significantly improve road accessibility in the Magarini Sub-County. The community is encouraged to expect high-quality results from the contractor.

Pangani Mugumoni-Darajani and Other Roads
In Kambe Ribe and Mwawesa Wards, we have inspected several roads including Pangani Mugumoni-Darajani and Malau-Potsama. These roads are currently being graded and murramed, with progress nearing completion.

Community Involvement
We value the input of Kilifi’s residents and actively seek their participation in our road projects. Community feedback helps us address local needs effectively and enhances the quality of our infrastructure. Through our regular consultations and site visits, we ensure that public concerns are integrated into our project planning and execution.

Future Plans
Looking ahead, we are committed to expanding and improving Kilifi County’s road network. Planned projects include the tarmacking of key roads, further phases of ongoing roadworks, and the introduction of advanced road construction technologies. We aim to enhance connectivity, reduce travel time, and support economic growth across the county.
